2. Installation
- Take out the drum and toner assembly, remove the orange protective part, then push the toner into the drum until the lever clicks.
- Load paper, then connect power. Do not connect USB until the driver asks for it.
- Set up wireless from the control panel: Menu, Network, WLAN, Setup Wizard, then choose the network and enter the key. WPS also works if your access point has the button.
- Print the Network Configuration Report from Menu, Print Reports to confirm the address.
3. Drivers and network
- Windows and macOS: use the Full Driver and Software Package from the vendor site rather than the basic driver, otherwise duplex and toner-saving options are missing.
- The drum and toner are separate. Replacing toner does not reset the drum counter, and the two have very different lifetimes.
- Linux: LPR and CUPS wrapper packages exist, but the built-in IPP Everywhere profile is simpler and enough for plain printing.
4. Maintenance schedule
Intervals below are for typical office use. Machines in dusty rooms or running heavy graphics need the shorter end of each range.

5. Common faults
Drum End Soon warning but prints are fine
The drum counter is time-and-page based. You can keep printing, but order a replacement; quality falls off quickly once it starts.
Vertical white line down the page
Corona wire needs cleaning, or toner is low on one side. Slide the green tab first, before anything else.
Printer goes offline on Wi-Fi every night
Router power saving or band steering. Fix the printer to the 2.4 GHz band and give it a DHCP reservation.
Manual feed pulls the sheet crooked
The single-sheet slot needs the sheet pushed in until the printer grips it. Release it as soon as the feed starts, do not hold it.
Toner Ended and printing stops
Brother stops rather than fades. If you must finish a job, Continue mode is in the General Setup menu, but print quality is no longer guaranteed.
